CFO or Controller?

Understanding whether your business needs a Controller or CFO is important to the success of your business. Timing is everything! As a business owner, you may think you need a CFO, but the reality may be quite different.  You may, in fact, need a CFO but just not yet.  Hiring a CFO early on in your business may lead to this CFO doing the following: building processes, improving controls, and designing reports.  This is Controller work and is not cost effective.  Knowing the difference between a CFO and Controller is part of the strategy to building a strong finance function.
